Several things are remarkable here. First, only 9-abreast in economy class on a 747 - about every operator today maximizes capacity by putting 10 seats in each row. Then, putting smokers in the rear half of each section (rather than a separate section of their own, separated from the rest by bulkheads) isn't very good for the non-smokers ... Personally I'm glad there are no more smoking flights.
